When I read rulings like this it makes me wonder what these corrupt rich men could be thinking. It defies logic, right? But it also makes me think two things about their thought process:

  1. that they believe that ecosystem destruction is too far gone to be addressed now. We have made our horrible mark as a species and there is no going back now. We couldn’t possibly fix the mess we have made so we might as well try to make as much money while we can. OR
  2. that they don’t see any reason to help future generations. In their defense this is hard for humans to wrap their minds around. Timelines lasting 100s or 1,000s of years. This goes against our biology of survive for now. They literally cannot imagine what it would be like to help those that they will never meet.

So, what to do now? Well, I am for taking action in the voting booths but I am more for taking action with a dollar. “Every time you spend a dollar you cast a vote” or “Every time you spend a dollar you are voting for how you want the future to be.” Something along those lines. It will take voting, boycotting, and active awareness of how we spend our money. Will this take more effort…
