Why does this genocide feel different?

The current genocide in Gaza

I have already lived through several genocides — most either started or supported by my country, the USA. The genocide in Yemen was supported and supplied with weapons by companies that I drive past each day (the DC, Maryland, Virginia region is full of them all). The genocide in West Papua was/is supported by American mining company Freeport-McMoRan. And now the genocide in Palestine has been given the explicit support of all US government officials and military — carrying out one of the most horrific genocides in history.

But why does this current genocide feel different? I think it is because it is almost live-streamed for the world to see. The world can see the horrific footage coming out of Gaza in real time. I do not think that there has ever been an event like this in history.

We are seeing most social media platforms try to silence and hide this footage but as we can see it is coming from too many people and pages — the entire world (Paris, Pakistan, NYC, London, Chicago, Seoul, and even Israel) are now marching against these war crimes. The whole world is seeing what this right-wing movement from the Zionist regime really stands for and in turn they have delegitimized themselves on a world stage.

Witnessing such actions makes it difficult to go on with day to day life.

Thank you to Medium though for being one of the few places on the internet that is not actively working to silence the voices of those that speak out against this senseless violence.
